# What is a proxy?

A proxy can be explained as an IP. So you can use a proxy to get a new IP. Some servers have a limit on how many accounts you may connect to their server. This limit is controlled by your IP, so you can bypass it using a proxy.

### Usage example

* The server you play has a player limit of 3 accounts per IP.
* You have 6 accounts that you wish to use.
* You can add 1 proxy to have an additional IP.
* Assign this proxy to 3 of your accounts.
* Now your first 3 accounts will have your default IP and the other 3 accounts will have the proxy IP. This way, the server can't limit your connections!

### Tips and tricks

Some proxies are free, others are paid. Free proxies are often unreliable and with high ping. A lot of free proxies are also easily detected. So if the server doesn't allow proxies, then you need a quality proxy so they can't detect it.

### Types of proxies

* **SOCKS5**\
  This is the recommended type of proxy.
* **HTTP**\
  Not recommened, but may be used in some rare cases. HTTP proxies are not designed to work for game connections, so most HTTP proxies will not work for minecraft.

### Which proxies to buy

We recommend buying private datacenter proxies. We do not recommend buying residential proxies as they usually cause a lot of issues.

Here's our affiliate link to the supplier that we use and recommend: <https://geonix.com/>[?partner\_link=RU12aRY2lq](https://geonix.com/?partner_link=RU12aRY2lq)

We recommend choosing IPv4, but ISP will work in most cases.

You can choose a specific country if your server is country specific, but in most cases the country doesn't matter. Mind that proxies are also a subscription.

When downloading the proxy list, be sure to use the SOCKS5 format instead of HTTP.
